The BVA has 4 Committees which serve as fora or organizational bodies for the development of activities on specific subjects of interest of the PE/VC Community. Each Committee is chaired by a Member of the Board of Directors and includes a number of our members with expertise in the domain of the committee.
Communication Committee
The Communication Committee is chaired by the President of the BVA and focuses on a wide range of topics relating to communication to the public, corporate identity, lobby and public affairs.
In 2008, Alain Parthoens is president of the BVA communication committee.
Education Committee
The education committee offers its members access to knowledge, by organizing the BVA workshops and the BVA Academy. Every year, the BVA organises four workshops on tpoics of interest for the industry Every two years, the BVA Academy welcomes in a two-day seminar new professionals who entered the industry to give a good immersion into the world of private equity and venture capital.
The education committee also adresses the needs of the general public and other stakeholders. It sorks to give the general public insights in the behaviour and practice of Private Equity and Venture Capital. The Committee also makes the information and content of the BVA communications acceesible to outside groups.
In 2008, Nathalie Engels is chairperson of the education committee.
Tax and Legal Committee
The tax and legal committee works on two tracks. The first track is to offer a platform for tax and legal specialists of our members to follow new trends and issues in legislation in the industry. The second track includes in depth work and discussions and the development of some practical tools such as drafting of standard BVA documents and members' information regarding relevant tax and legal modifications were also major preoccupations of the Committee. The committee also invites guest speakers to share their expertise in specific domains.
In 2008, chairman of the tax & legal committee is Werner Heyvaert. The reporting to the board is handled by Guy Geldhof, secretary general.
Start-up & Innovation Committee
The scope of the start up & innovation committee is “Private Equity – Venture Capital and its relation to start-ups, innovation and entrepreneurship”.
The committee works on the improvement of statistics of venture backed, early stage companies in Belgium and coaching of entrepreneurs in the different stages of the investment cycle. The Committee works out a “coach the coach” initiative for intermediaries involved in coaching/assisting start-up companies with high growth potential DNA.
In 2008, Marc Lambrechts is chairman of the start up & innovation committee. Reporting to the board is handled by Katrin Geyskens.
