The BVA is an indepent legal structure which takes the form of a VZW/ASBL which is a legal structure for a non-profit organisation under Belgian law.  It has its own "rechtspersoonlijkheid"

Its full name is the "BELGIAN VENTURE CAPITAL & PRIVATE EQUITY ASSOCIATION", a name which was introduced in March 2007.  Until then, the association had the name "BELGIAN VENTURING ASSOCIATION".  The name change reflects the tendency with its peer organisations in other European countries to include both the private equity label in the name of the association.  Over recent years, the buyout activity has gained importance and the buyout segment is an integral part of the private equity industry.  As such, the BVA is fully representative of the venture capital and buyout industry in Belgium.

The BVA members are represented at the General Assembly who elects and appoints a Board of Directors.  The Board of Directors is in charge of representing the BVA.
